Relief to two more accused in Delhi liquor case! Know the reason for granting bail | News India

Riot was arrested by the ED last year

The ED arrested Rait last year in a money laundering case related to the liquor scam. He was accused of arranging cash for the Aam Aadmi Party's election campaign for the 2022 Goa Assembly elections. After Rait's arrest, the case progressed and on March 21, 2024, the ED arrested Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal.

Vijay Nair got bail last week

Last week, the Supreme Court granted bail to Vijay Nair, who was the communication in-charge of the Aam Aadmi Party. Nair was arrested on charges of money laundering related to the liquor scam case. Earlier, former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and then BRS leader K Kavitha were also granted bail. Vijay Nair had to remain in jail for about 23 months. Nair is counted among those who were arrested earlier in the liquor scam.

This was revealed by the report of the then Chief Secretary

The Delhi liquor scam was revealed on 8 July 2022 by the report of the then Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar. After this the matter reached the CBI and then the ED also took action. The CBI and ED have claimed that irregularities were committed while revising the Delhi Excise Policy for 2021-22 and license holders were given undue advantage. The Kejriwal government in Delhi implemented the policy on 17 November 2021, but canceled it in late September 2022 amid allegations of corruption.
