Relief to Navneet Rana from Supreme Court, caste certificate intact

Mumbai: The Supreme Court has given last-minute relief to Amravati MP and current BJP leader Navneet Rana to contest elections on BJP ticket from SC reserved seat in Maharashtra while maintaining his caste certificate. The Supreme Court canceled the earlier order of the Bombay High Court canceling the certificate. Let us tell you that today was the last day to fill the nomination form and the Supreme Court gave relief today.

Shiv Sena leader Anandrao Adsule complained to the Mumbai District Certificate Scrutiny Committee against the Mochi caste certificate given to Navneet Rana. After this, a petition was filed in the High Court to cancel the caste certificate and the High Court ordered to cancel the certificate of this Rana.

Rana was accused of using her husband Ravi Rana's relationship to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Amravati reserved voters union to obtain a Scheduled Caste certificate.

Mrs. Maheshwari and Justice. Sanjay Karol's bench upheld Rana's petition and said that the High Court should not have interfered in the report of the review committee on Rana's caste certificate. The Committee, after perusing the documents before it, took the decision following the principles of justice. In view of what has been discussed and the facts and circumstances presented, the appeal is allowed and the order of the High Court is set aside.

On June 8, 2021, the High Court said that the cobbler's certificate was obtained fraudulently by using fake documents of Rana. Rana at Rs. While imposing a fine of Rs 2 lakh, he said that it is written in the records that he belongs to 'Sikh Chamar' caste. Earlier, the High Court had ruled that 'Chamar' and 'Sikh Chamar' are not the same caste. It is said in the Constitution that the word 'Sikh Chamar' cannot be compared with the word 'Mochi'. The High Court also criticized the poor administration of the review committee. The court said that the Vigilance Cell raised objection saying that the original documents were not produced and the signatures were also different, but the committee did nothing in this regard.

Navneet Rana won the 2019 Lok Sabha election as an independent from Amravati constituency with the support of Congress and NCP. This time BJP has given him the ticket.
