The Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked state-owned NHAI to go ahead with the calculation of new user fee (toll) rates on highways, which were originally scheduled to come into effect from Monday, April 1, but the new rates Said it should be implemented only after the Lok Sabha elections. According to reports, ECI has asked NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) to suspend the toll fee hike for the time being. The ECIA was responding to the communication of the Minister of Road Transport and Highways in this regard. The annual revision of toll hike, which was expected to be in the range of five per cent on an average, was to be implemented on most toll highways and expressways across the country from April 1, but it will now come into effect after the Lok Sabha elections. , Meanwhile, the process required for decision on electricity tariff by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission may continue but its implementation may take place after the date of completion of elections in the concerned State. The ECI had on April 1, 2024, told the Road Ministry that in the context of the clarification sought, the user charges will be viewed with reference to the electricity tariff mentioned in the notification cited by the Election Commission.
