Violence in relationships: A new report from the World Health Organization (WHO) has come out which has revealed shocking statistics of violence against girls around the world. According to this WHO report, 1 in every 4 girls between the ages of 15 and 19 is a victim of physical or mental violence in their relationships.
A study conducted by the World Health Organization between 2000 and 2018 analyzed thousands of girls aged 15 to 19 in 154 countries. According to the lead author of the study, Dr. Lynn Marie, experts were also surprised by this report that today so many teenage girls become victims of violence even before celebrating their 20th birthday. In this case, data after 2018 is now being studied.
The study revealed that the level of violence in a country is also linked to women's rights. For example, even where women and girls have access to education and equal inheritance laws, these benefits are not reaching them. This type of violence cannot be ignored either. The countries where girls face the most violence include Oceania, Africa, Papua New Guinea and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Europe has seen the least violence. Here, incidents of violence against adolescent girls are only 10 percent.
What can you do to escape an abusive relationship?
– Recognize and avoid abusive behavior in any relationship. If someone tries to exert too much control in the relationship, abuses physically or verbally, remove them from the relationship.
– Clear and unbreakable boundaries should be set beforehand about what is acceptable and what is unacceptable behaviour in a relationship. If you set your boundaries at the beginning of the relationship, the incidence of violence from the partner reduces.
– Maintain communication with close friends and family. Keep discussing your relationship problems. So they can help you identify abusive relationships and give advice on how to never leave the relationship.
– Do not feel ashamed or insecure about talking about violence or abusive situations in a relationship. Discuss it with a professional or family members.
