If we look at the life of Shri Guru Amardas Ji (1479-1574 AD), an example of service, sadhana and humility, we come to know that his entire life is a beacon of light for humanity. Shri Guru Amardas ji took forward the principles and concepts of Guru Nanak Sahib to remove social discrimination, where he abolished the practice of Sati and Purdah, while giving the widows the right to resettle their homes. He got rid of untouchability, superstitions, gave instructions regarding the last rites, established the concept of 'Sangat te Pangat', established 22 Manjis for the promotion and propagation of Gursikh, founded the holy land of Majha and Shri Goindwal Sahib city, composed Gurbani to show the path to humanity and connect with Guru-Shabad and built a Baoli with 84 steps. The land of Shri Goindwal Sahib is also called the 'pivot of education'. Here the third Patshah got the position of Guru and this city is his karmabhoomi.
Sikh Panth is celebrating the 450th birth anniversary of Guru Ram Das Ji and 450th birth anniversary of Guru Amar Das Ji. A large number of people from India and abroad are reaching the centenary celebrations in Sri Goindwal Sahib and surrounding areas.
