Srinagar, September 23 (HS). Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) president Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday accused regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir of misleading the people with false promises and agendas.
During road shows in Ganderbal and Hazratbal, Azad said these parties have repeatedly exploited public sentiments without offering any real solutions to the issues faced by the people. He said MPs from other parties, including the Congress, chose to remain silent on the repeal of Article 370 while he stood firmly against it.
He said that I fought against the repeal of Article 370 in Parliament and also sat on a dharna to express my disagreement. The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said that these parties often use emotional rhetoric to divert attention from their failure to bring development.
He said no mosque or religion was in danger. If anyone tries to attack our faith, I will be the first to stand up and sacrifice for the people, he said. Recalling his tenure as chief minister, Azad said he gave district status to Ganderbal and built hospitals, schools and roads. Many leaders have failed to bring progress, they have misused votes and lied and deceived the public. He assured Ganderbal residents that DPAP was committed to carry forward development initiatives in the region.
He said we will work more for the development of Ganderbal. On employment issues in Jammu and Kashmir, Azad said the policies of the current government have marginalised local residents. He claimed that outside contractors dominate the sand industry leaving locals without jobs and economic opportunities. He said our youth are facing dire circumstances, many are turning to drugs due to lack of employment opportunities. He said if elected I will introduce a law to ensure that only locals can buy land in our area and secure jobs.
Talking to reporters, Azad said other political parties are competitors of DPAP, not friends or enemies. He said, “None of them is my enemy. Political parties are our competitors. Like class, we are all good friends but there is competition so I consider every political party and leader as my competitor. I don't consider any party leader as my friend. I wish them all good health.”
