Red Fort Capture: The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition of Sultana Begum, widow of Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar (II). In her petition, Sultana Begum claimed to be a legitimate successor of the Mughal emperor and demanded to take possession of the Red Fort in Delhi. A bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna called the petition absurd.
Challenge of High Court verdict in Supreme Court
According to reports, the Delhi High Court had earlier dismissed the petition of Sultana Begum. He challenged the High Court verdict in the Supreme Court. A bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna dismissed the petition at one time, saying, “This is a completely baseless petition and is not worth the hearing.”
This application was first filed in 2021.
Sultana Begum lives in Howrah near Kolkata. He first filed this petition in the High Court in 2021. He hoped that on this pretext, the government would focus on their demands and at least some financial assistance, but nothing happened.
The Delhi High Court dismissed the petition citing a delay of more than 164 years in filing the case. Today, when the case was heard in the Supreme Court, he dismissed the petition and said, ‘Why only the Red Fort, why not Fatehpur Sikri, why was it excluded?’
