New Delhi, July 18 (HS). The record-breaking rise in the domestic stock market continued today as well. Today once again the stock market made a new record of strength and ended today's trading with a new closing record. Today's trading started with a decline. After the market opened, the weakness of the stock market increased further due to selling pressure. After the first half hour of trading, buyers completely took over the market, due to which the stock market not only succeeded in reaching the green mark, but both the stock market indices also reached new records of all-time high. After the whole day's trading, the Sensex closed with a strength of 0.78 percent and Nifty 0.76 percent.
In today's trading, the Sensex succeeded in crossing the 81 thousand points level for the first time and closed above 81 thousand. Similarly, the Nifty also succeeded in crossing 24,800 points for the first time and ended today's trading above 24,800 points. Despite the rise in the Sensex and Nifty, stock market investors had to face a loss of more than Rs 1 lakh crore today due to the sell-off in small and medium stocks.
During today's trading, there was strong buying in IT, banking and FMCG sector stocks. Apart from this, the automobile index also managed to close with a gain. On the other hand, there was selling pressure in metal, public sector enterprise, realty, capital goods and power sector stocks. There was continuous pressure in the broader market today, due to which the BSE midcap index closed with a weakness of 0.99 percent. Similarly, the smallcap index ended today's trading with a fall of 1.15 percent.
Despite the strength in the market today, the wealth of stock market investors decreased by more than Rs 1 lakh crore due to the sell-off in smallcap and midcap stocks. The market capitalization of companies listed on BSE decreased to Rs 454.22 lakh crore (provisional) after today's trading. Their market capitalization on the previous trading day i.e. Tuesday was Rs 455.24 lakh crore. In this way, investors suffered a loss of about Rs 1.02 lakh crore from today's trading.
There was active trading in 4,016 shares on the BSE during today's trading. Out of these, 1,425 shares closed with a gain while 2,500 shares showed a decline and 91 shares closed without any fluctuation. There was active trading in 2,346 shares on the NSE today. Out of these, 728 shares closed in the green zone after making profits while 1,618 shares closed in the red zone after incurring losses. Similarly, out of the 30 shares included in the Sensex, 23 shares closed with a gain and 7 shares closed with a decline. While, out of the 50 shares included in the Nifty, 35 shares closed in the green zone and 15 shares closed in the red zone.
The BSE Sensex opened today with a weakness of 202.30 points at 80,514.25 points. As soon as the trading started, due to the selling pressure, the index fell by 326.18 points to reach its lowest level of 80,390.37 points today. After this, buyers started buying all around in the market, due to which the movement of this index gained momentum. With the support of continuous buying in the market, half an hour before the end of today's trading, the Sensex jumped 1,132.18 points from the lower level and reached the highest level of 81,522.55 points till now with a strength of 806 points. After the whole day's trading, the Sensex closed at the level of 81,343.46 points, setting a new closing record with a gain of 626.91 points.
Like the Sensex, NSE's Nifty also started trading today at 24,543.80 points, down 69.20 points. As soon as the market opened, profit booking started and the index fell 108.55 points to 24,504.45 points. After this, the bulls took over the market, due to which the index gained momentum. With the support of continuous buying, the Nifty jumped 333.30 points from the lower level and reached an all-time high of 24,837.75 points with a gain of 224.75 points. However, due to selling due to intra-day settlement at the end of trading, the Nifty slipped slightly below the highest level and closed at a new closing record of 24,800.85 points with a gain of 187.85 points.
After the day's trading, among the stock market's big stocks, LT Mindtree rose by 3.50 percent, TCS by 3.28 percent, ONGC by 2.50 percent, Bajaj Finserv by 2.59 percent and Wipro by 2.41 percent to be included in the list of today's top 5 gainers. On the other hand, Asian Paints fell by 1.44 percent, Coal India by 1.41 percent, Hero Motocorp by 1.36 percent, Grasim Industries by 1.26 percent and Bajaj Auto by 0.95 percent to be included in the list of today's top 5 losers.
