RBI Governor gave a big warning to all banks, know how you can protect yourself?

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has given a big warning to banks regarding 'mule accounts'. According to a report in the Economic Times, the governor has asked banks to take immediate steps to identify mule accounts.

What is a mule account?

So let us tell you that a mule account is a bank account used by fraudsters. They deposit the fraudulent amount in this account. Fraudsters do not transfer the fraudulent amount to their own accounts because it makes it easier for them to get caught. That's why they use someone else's bank account.

How is it used?

Nowadays, more and more Mule accounts are used for money laundering and phishing scams. Fraudsters trick people and force them to make transactions and convince people to give their bank account information. Once entered into the banking system, this account functions just like any normal bank account. This makes it difficult for banks to identify them.

How to avoid this?

If a large amount suddenly comes into your account, be careful and use technology. If money has been deposited in suspicious accounts, please coordinate with the bank to freeze it. There is also information about creating a central portal for the victims. Apart from this, there is also a helpline number – 1930, on which you can easily call and register a complaint.

Take special care that no transaction is taking place from your bank account to any unknown account or person. If someone gives you an attractive offer, then be careful. You need to avoid such offers. If a stranger asks you to transfer money to your account, then refuse him clearly and be careful. Apart from this, you should not give your Aadhar card or PAN card to any unknown person.
