Rashid Khan after losing the semi-final vs SA T20 WC 2024: South Africa entered the final by defeating Afghanistan by nine wickets in the pre-T20 World Cup semi-final (SA first tom ever in T20 WC 2024 final). Earlier, South Africa presented a great example of bowling and bowled out Afghanistan for just 56 runs in the first semi-final of the T20 World Cup. Marco Jensen took three wickets for 16 runs while Kagiso Rabada took two wickets for 14 runs and Anrich Norcia took two wickets for seven runs. At the same time, Afghanistan's score in the powerplay was 28 runs for five wickets and the whole team was out in 11.5 overs. Afghanistan's dream of playing the World Cup final for the first time was shattered even before it started. South Africa's fast bowlers did not fail, but Afghanistan's batsmen also kept making mistakes.
Afghanistan gave Africa a target of just 56 runs
Afghanistan batted first and gave Africa a target of just 56 runs. Chasing this target, Africa won the match with 9 wickets remaining. Earlier, Rashid Khan looked worried about the target given by his team to Africa and during the match he was seen standing with Jonathan Trott with his head in his hands.
Rashid Khan got emotional after the defeat
After the semi-final loss, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan said that it was very difficult for us as a team. We could have done better, but the situation did not allow us to do what we wanted to do. T20 cricket is like this, you have to be ready for every situation. I think South Africa bowled very well. I think we got good success in this tournament because the fast bowlers bowled really well. You need a good start. I think we were unfortunate due to Mujeeb's injury but our fast bowlers and Nabi also bowled brilliantly with the new ball. This made our job easier as spinners.
We will have to work harder.
We enjoyed this tournament. We will accept playing the semi-finals and losing to a top team like South Africa. This is just the beginning for us, we have the confidence and belief to beat any team. We just need to continue our process. It has been a great learning experience for us. What we learn from competing is confidence. We know we have the skill, it is just about handling tough situations, pressure situations. Some work needs to be done to carry the innings forward, especially in the middle order. As I said it is always a learning opportunity for our team and we have got good results so far, but we have to work harder, especially in the batting department.
