In Sanatan Dharma, Trayodashi date is considered dedicated to the worship of Devadhidev Mahadev Lord Shiva. Pradosh fast is observed on Trayodashi of both the fortnights (Krishna and Shukla Paksha) of every month. Whenever Trayodashi Tithi falls on Tuesday, it is known as ‘Bhauma Pradosh Vrat’ in the scriptures. This Bhaum Pradosh fast, falling in the holy month of Bhadrapada month, is considered very rare in itself, full of spiritual energy and special miraculous. In astrology, Mars has been called ‘Bhaum’ i.e. son of the earth, who is the lord of courage, valor, land, buildings, blood and energy.
Lord Shiva himself is the presiding deity and guru of Mangal Dev. In such a situation, this union of Tuesday and Trayodashi Tithi is like a boon for all those seekers who are troubled in their lives due to financial constraints, heavy debt burden, property disputes, blood disorders or fear of enemies without any reason. According to religious beliefs, Rudrabhishek and worship done during Pradosh period at sunset on the day of Bhaum Pradosh ends the poverty of a person in many births and brings immense happiness, prosperity and health in his life.
According to Panchang calculations, Trayodashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month is starting at noon on 8 September 2026, which will remain in effect till noon on 9 September 2026. As per the clear rules of the scriptures and Dharmasindhu, Pradosh Vrat is always determined on the basis of ‘Pradosh Kaal’ i.e. the time after sunset. Since Trayodashi Tithi will be present at the time of sunset on 8th September 2026 (Tuesday), the main Bhaum Pradosh Vrat of Bhadrapada will be observed on 8th September only.
On this day, the most sacred puja time of Pradosh Kaal will be from 06:32 pm to 08:52 pm. This is a stable lagna period of about 2 hours 20 minutes, in which by worshiping Lord Bholenath, Mata Parvati and Shri Kartikeya, the seeker gets infinite fold results of the worship. Along with this, the auspicious yoga of Pushya Nakshatra will also be present on this day, which increases the purity of this day and its ability to provide accomplishment manifold.
A detailed description of the importance of Bhaum Pradosh fast is found in Skanda Purana and Shiva Mahapuran. According to the legend, when Mangal Dev went to Kashi and performed rigorous penance for Lord Shiva for years to calm down his ferocity and heat, then Mahadev was pleased and gave him the post of commander among the nine planets and gave him the boon that whichever devotee will worship them together on Trayodashi date on Tuesday, the inauspiciousness of Mars and Manglik Dosha (Manglik Dosha) will be completely destroyed from his life.
By observing the fast of Bhaum Pradosh, not only one gets the immense compassion of Lord Shiva, but one also automatically gets the blessings of Lord Mangal as well as his worshiper Shri Hanuman ji. This fast gives the seeker mental strength, fearlessness and self-confidence to fight difficult situations. For those who are facing constant delay in marriage or tension in married life due to Mangal Dosh, this fast proves to be a surefire way to remove the defect.
The biggest and famous feature of Bhaum Pradosh Vrat is ‘Rin Mukti’ i.e. getting rid of debts forever. In today’s era, many people are burdened with heavy burden of business losses, personal loan, credit card or home loan. Many times the debt does not get resolved even after trying and financial crisis takes the form of mental depression. According to Vedic astrology, when Mars creates an adverse relationship with the sixth, eighth or twelfth house in the horoscope, the person gets continuously trapped in the maze of debt.
On the day of Bhaum Pradosh, the ‘Rinmukteshwar Mahadev’ form of Lord Shiva is meditated upon. It is believed that on this day, a person who fasts with true heart and anoints Shivalinga with special liquids in the evening and recites ‘Rinmochak Mangal Stotra’, gets financial benefits from unexpected sources and the path to repaying his years old debts automatically opens. Apart from this, this fast proves to be a milestone for the businessmen in clearing the stuck money and giving impetus to new business projects.
