Araria, March 22 (HS). The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Manoj Kumar Tiwari has sentenced a relative of a railway employee to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment in a rape case. In its decision, the court has given a fine of Rs 50 thousand to the culprit. Also sentenced to fine. In its decision, apart from making the convicted rapist face additional punishment of three months for not paying the fine amount, the convict was also ordered to pay the fine amount in favor of the victim. The court gave this decision in sentencing session case number 200/2023, which is related to Araria Mahila Police Station FIR case number -71/2021.
The convicted rapists are relatives of the victim and are Railway employees. The convicted rapists are posted in Railway Group D at Kusiargaon. The convicted convict is Abhay Ranjan alias Kumar Abhay Ranjan, 39 year old son of Sugriva Sah, resident of Maithil Tola Shiv Mandir, Katihar.
Convict Abhay Ranjan had brought the victim along with his younger brother on the pretext of his wife's illness on September 15, 2021, assuring them of helping him in the household chores. The victim's parents sent the victim along with her younger brother to the convict's relative. . The culprit kept the two brothers and sisters in the government quarters of the Railways in Kusiargaon. In the absence of the wife, he kept the victim and her brother under the pretext of coming from Purnia by evening. Then on 16 September 2021, the younger brother was sent to another room after giving drugs in tea and the accused Abhay raped the victim in an unconscious state. Not only this, he made a video of the rape of the victim and blackmailed her. He kept abusing her sexually. On the insistence of the victim to go to her home, she was dropped off in a private vehicle to Purnia. From there the victim somehow reached home and narrated her ordeal to her family members.
When the victim went to the Superintendent of Police, Katihar and the local police station area to lodge an FIR in her home district Katihar, she was asked to lodge a case in Araria itself due to jurisdiction. Then the victim lodged an FIR in the women's police station. Even after this, the accused put pressure on the victim to hush up the matter by making her video viral and by pretending to be a representative of the railway union.
While hearing the point of punishment, senior advocate Krishna Mohan Singh, citing the convict's small children and helpless wife, pleaded for minimum punishment. Whereas Additional Public Prosecutor Rajanand Paswan demanded maximum punishment for the culprit who committed the heinous act by intoxicating the victim against her will in the railway quarter. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court sentenced the accused to death.
