Odisha Rape Murder Case: A shocking incident of murder of a minor rape victim has come to light in Sundergarh district of Odisha. The accused Kunu Kishan, who was earlier in jail on rape charges and is now out on bail, kidnapped the victim and murdered her. After the murder, the accused cut the body into pieces and threw it at different places. According to the police, the victim had filed a rape case against the accused last year.
Police reached the accused with the help of AI
When the police started investigation, CCTV footage showed two people taking the girl on a motorcycle. Both were wearing helmets, due to which they could not be identified. The girl was a native of Sundargarh district, but was staying at a relative’s house in Jharsuguda city. When the police got complete information from the girl’s family, they started gathering information about rape accused Kunu Kishan. Using Artificial Intelligence technology, the police reached Kunu.
Murder to avoid punishment under POCSO Act
Police investigation revealed that accused Kunu Kishan had conspired to commit murder to avoid punishment under the POCSO Act. The girl was kidnapped from Jharsuguda village and murdered in Rourkela. The matter came to light when the victim’s family lodged a missing complaint in the police station. Odisha West Range IG Himanshu Lal said the police have solved the murder through CCTV footage and other evidence.
Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force investigated
During interrogation, Kunu Kishan confessed to killing the victim and cutting the body into pieces. Initially he claimed that the body was thrown in the Brahmani river, but later he said that the body parts were thrown at different places. Police and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) conducted a search and recovered body parts and jackets of the victim.
The intention behind murder to avoid punishment
Police say that the accused killed the victim to avoid punishment. The accused committed murder and threw the body parts in Brahmani river and other places. IG Himanshu Lal said that in view of this heinous crime, the case will be heard in a fast track court.
