Patiala: Police have arrested two people for demanding ransom of Rs 20 lakh from the state president of Toll Plaza Workers Union. The team of CIA Chief Inspector Shaminder Singh has arrested Sunpreet Singh alias Sunny, resident of Amarpura Mohalla Mandi Ahmedgarh and Rohit Ram, resident of Ward No. 6 Lehragaga, from bus stand village Fatehpur. Sunny and Rohit used to watch the news of ransom demand by gangsters on social media and news channels and got influenced by it and planned to carry out this incident. Sunny prepared a plan to target Saleh's brother-in-law Darshan Singh. Darshan Singh had recently bought a new Fortuner car, due to which Sanpreet Singh Sunny felt that the ransom money could be obtained by threatening him. Sanpreet Singh Sunny who seems to be the brother-in-law of Darshan Singh Laddi.
SP Yogesh Sharma said that on the morning of September 13, someone had demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh from Dhanthal, resident of Toll Plaza Workers Union Punjab, Darshan Singh Ladi, taking the name of a gangster. Threats of death were given if extortion was not paid. In this regard, a case has been registered in Sadar Samana police station and investigation has been started. During investigation, it was revealed that Sanpreet Singh alias Sunny and Rohit Ram have been friends for the last 11-12 years. Rohit Ram works in marketing in a food company and used to visit Ahmedgarh often. Sunny works as a plumber, due to which they have been meeting each other in Ahmedgarh. The SP said that the accused were produced in the court on September 29 and have been taken on remand till October 1.
Called by stealing the phone of a passenger sleeping at the station
Sanpreet Singh Sunny and Rohit Ram together first stole the mobile phone of a sleeping passenger at Hisar (Haryana) railway station and on September 13, near Jakhal railway station, Rohit threatened and killed Darshan Singh Ladi by calling him a gangster. After using the phone, the accused threw the phone and SIM at different places. Both of them were soon preparing to call Darshan Singh Ladi again and collect the ransom money.
