Ramayana Box Office Day 2: Crosses Rs 112 crore, misses this record of Adipurush

Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor, South sensation Sai Pallavi and Rockstar Yash’s much-awaited multi-starrer mythological epic ‘Ramayana: Part 1’ is progressing at a stormy pace at the box office. This grand film, directed by Nitish Tiwari, has started attracting the audience as soon as it was released in theatres. After taking a spectacular opening on Thursday, the film maintained a strong hold at the domestic box office on its second day i.e. first Friday. According to early estimates from trade tracker Sacnilk, the film has collected a net collection of around ₹48.05 crore across all languages on the second day. With this, the total earning of the film in India has crossed ₹112.90 crore nett in just two days. From single screens to multiplexes and IMAX 3D shows across the country, huge crowds of viewers are being seen, due to which the film has topped the list of the fastest films to join the Rs 100 crore club of the year 2026.

If we analyze the collection of the film, Hindi language has contributed the most in it. Out of the ₹48.05 crore collected on the second day, the Hindi version alone has earned about ₹35.50 crore, which is more than 73 percent of the total business. Evening and night shows ran with a strong occupancy of 40 to 50 percent in the circuits of North India, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Lucknow and Kolkata. Whereas in South India, the tremendous impact of the presence of Kannada superstar Yash, playing the role of Ravana, was seen in Karnataka. The Kannada version did a stellar business of ₹5.15 crore on the second day. Apart from this, the film earned ₹ 4.75 crore in Telugu language, ₹ 1.50 crore in Tamil and about ₹ 1.15 crore in Malayalam. Talking about the worldwide gross collection, with the boost of more than ₹ 86 crore from the overseas market, the film has crossed the huge gross figure of ₹ 221 crore globally in two days.

Despite the film crossing Rs 112 crore, it is being directly compared in the trade circle with Prabhas and Kriti Sanon’s film ‘Adipurush’ released in the year 2023. Adipurush, based on Ramayana, recorded a historic opening of ₹86.75 crore nett across all languages in India on the very first day of its release. Whereas Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayana’ could only touch the figure of ₹ 64.85 crore nett in India on the first day. In this way, ‘Ramayana’ fell about ₹ 22 crores short of breaking the record of Prabhas’s Adipurush in terms of overall all-India collection on the first day. Adipurush had exceptional support from Prabhas’s huge fanbase in the Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), where the film garnered a net collection of ₹48 crore on the first day from Telugu alone. However, if we talk only about the Hindi language opening day collection, Ranbir’s ‘Ramayan’ (₹47.50 crore nett) has easily overtaken Adipurush’s Hindi collection (₹37.25 crore nett).

Even though Adipurush had given a big opening number on the first day, the box office of that film crashed badly on the third-fourth day of its release due to poor VFX, controversial characters’ looks and controversial dialogues. In stark contrast, Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ has received extremely positive word of mouth from audiences and critics. The gentle poise shown by Ranbir Kapoor in the role of Lord Ram, the simplicity of Sai Pallavi as Mother Sita and the world-class visual effects of the Oscar-winning DNEG company are being praised all around. The film maintaining the ₹48 crore mark despite the second day being a normal working Friday after the first day, shows that the audience is satisfied with the presentation of the story.

According to trade analysts, due to its release on Thursday, the film has got an extended opening weekend of four days (Thursday-Sunday). Advance booking figures for Saturday and Sunday show that there will be a huge jump of 30 to 40 percent in occupancy on weekends. The film will get the direct benefit of the upcoming Diwali festival holidays throughout the week. It is expected that by Sunday night, ‘Ramayana’ will be in a strong position to touch ₹250 crore nett in India and ₹450 to ₹500 crore gross figure worldwide. Due to strong content and huge influx of families, this film is going to surpass the opening records and prove to be a long-haul horse at the box office.
