Dera dirty ram raheemfurlough: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday sought a reply from the Haryana government on the demand for 21 days furlough to Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and Justice Lupita Banerjee has fixed the hearing of the case on July 31.
On behalf of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, his lawyers said that they have already given an application to the Haryana government in this regard. The Punjab and Haryana High Court should allow Ram Rahim to be furloughed because without the court's order he cannot be granted parole or furlough. The Haryana government had said that the Dera chief's application is being considered, but no decision has been taken yet.
The final decision in this regard will be taken only after the order of the High Court. Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim said While filing the petition, it was said that a tribute fund for the sevadars is being organised in the camp and he should be given leave to attend it.
Under the Haryana Good Conduct Prisoners (Temporary Release) Act 2022, every prisoner is entitled to 70 days of parole and 21 days of leave. Out of this, 20 days of parole and 21 days of furlough are yet to be received.
