Hamirpur, 24 August (HS). The walls of a centuries-old temple in the district have the entire Mahabharata and Sri Krishna Leela depicted on them. Preparations for Sri Krishna Janmotsav have begun in this temple. The entire temple is being illuminated with colours. On the night of Sri Krishna Janmotsav, a crowd of people from the entire village gathers and men and women participate in the Mangala Aarti. The temple will host colourful programmes for six days starting from Janmashtami.
Khandeh village of Maudha region was made a pargana for administrative system in British rule. This village is also mentioned in the government district gazetteer. In the year 1878, Khandeh village was handed over to the British rule by Nana Govind Rao. In ancient history, this village existed even during the times of pre-Mughal Sultanate and Aryans. Ram-Janaki temple is built in a very large area in this village. In the temple itself, grand statues of Ram, Janaki and Laxman made of ashtadhatu are installed, while in one part, beautiful statues of Radha and Shri Krishna are installed.
Sarvakar Pradyum Kumar Dubey alias Lalu, who takes care of the temple, said that the carving in this entire temple is unmatched. The idols of the gods and goddesses have been carved in a very amazing way. He said that preparations have been started for Shri Krishna Janmotsav. The people of the village collectively participate in the Janmotsav program. After Mangala Aarti, the next day the complete recitation of Ramcharit Manas with its meaning will begin which will continue till 31 August. On the concluding day itself, the Chhathi Utsav of Shri Krishna will be celebrated with great pomp. There will be a devotional musical evening program in the evening. Artists have been called from Lucknow for this.

Pradyum Dubey alias Lalu and temple priest Rakesh Bajpai said that the entire Mahabharata and Shri Krishna Leela episodes are depicted on the granite stone of the temple. Along with this, episodes from Ram Katha are also depicted. The priest said that the craftsmanship and art of carving on marble and granite stones is unmatched. All kinds of stones have been mixed and set in such a way during the construction of the entire temple that the joints of the stones are beyond understanding. This temple is built in an area of one acre. The entire temple appears to be made of a single stone.
Now the tourism department has set up camp to beautify the centuries-old temple
To beautify the centuries-old temple, the tourism department has now set up camp in Khandeh village. The head of the temple, Pradyum Dubey, said that Rs 50 lakh was sanctioned under the CM Tourism Promotion Scheme but only Rs 31 lakh was released. Both the old temples have been constructed with this amount. He said that Rs 86 lakh has been received from the government to beautify the temple. Now the tourism department is getting the work done here. So far, 70 percent construction work has been done, including the park.
