Rajinikanth wanted Tamannaah Bhatia’s dance number in ‘Jailor 2’: Then why did things not work out? The real reason came to light

Superstar Rajinikanth’s mega-blockbuster film ‘Jailor’, released in the year 2023, had broken all the old records of earning at the box office. As much as the swag of ‘Thalaivaa’ and the suspenseful direction of Nelson Dilip Kumar contributed to the success of this film, an equally big craze was seen for Tamannaah Bhatia’s superhit dance number ‘Kaavaalaa’. This song, which trended on the internet for months, made the entire country dance. Now when the work on the next part of this franchise i.e. ‘Jailor 2’ is going on at a fast pace, there was only one question in the mind of every cinema lover that whether the same killer dance of Tamanna will be seen in the sequel also. It has been interestingly revealed in the recent reports that Rajinikanth himself wanted Tamanna’s explosive dance number to be included in the sequel, but despite this, things could not work out.

According to reports coming out from the corridors of the industry, superstar Rajinikanth is very excited about the scripting and musical elements of the film ‘Jailor 2’. Tamannaah Bhatia’s song ‘Kawala’ in the first part gave the film a huge mass-appeal and hype even before its release. Audiences from North to South India had made lakhs of reels on this song. Keeping this in mind, Rajinikanth had in the initial discussions with director Nelson Dilipkumar and music director Anirudh Ravichander raised the idea of whether a similar energetic peppy track could be planned with Tamannaah Bhatia in the sequel. The producers also felt that this formula could prove to be a milestone for the pre-release marketing of the film.

Despite the huge demand for Tamannaah Bhatia’s dance number, it was ultimately decided not to include it in the story of ‘Jailor 2’. The main reason behind this is the mood of the film’s story and the flow of the script. Director Nelson Dilip Kumar is not known for forcing songs or inserting unnecessary commercial elements in his films. According to reports, the plot of ‘Jailor 2’ is much darker, intense and revenge-driven than the first part. The story of the sequel revolves around the unsolved mysteries from the past of ‘Muthuvel Pandian’ (Rajinikanth’s character) and new powerful villains. The director believed that suddenly inserting a glamorous dance number amidst such a serious and fast-paced story could distract the audience’s attention and slow down the pace of the film. After a long creative discussion, superstar Rajinikanth also agreed to this, respecting the director’s vision.

Sun Pictures and director Nelson are preparing a bigger canvas than the first part this time. The team is completely focused on not making anything feel repeated in the sequel. In the first part, Tamanna’s character and song fit naturally into a particular sequence (shooting set and kidnapping scene), but in the second part, that kind of situation was not being created in the story. Composer Anirudh Ravichander is now working on a different kind of theme song and mass-beats, which will be directly related to Rajinikanth’s action and backstory and not any separately added items or cameo dances.

Even if the dance numbers are not on the cards, the makers are working on cameos from many other big actors to make ‘Jailor 2’ a new benchmark at a pan-India level. A section of fans on social media are a bit disappointed with the absence of Tamannaah’s song, but cinema experts believe that giving priority to the story is the right step for any sequel. However, many big revelations are expected from the sets of ‘Jailor 2’ in the coming days, and the audience is eager to see what new blast Anirudh and Nelson bring to the theaters this time without ‘Kaawala’.
