News India Live, Digital Desk: In politics, leaders and journalists are often seen standing face to face with each other. Sharp questions and harsh criticism are part of this profession. Senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai is also considered one of the most vocal critics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government. But recently he has shared an incident which presents a beautiful example of humanity beyond politics.
Rajdeep was fighting a battle with cancer
Rajdeep Sardesai had revealed some time ago that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, for which he had to undergo a surgery. This was a difficult period for him and his family. But in this difficult time, he received a call which he could hardly have imagined.
When the Prime Minister himself called
Rajdeep told during an interview, “I was diagnosed with cancer six months ago. After the surgery, during Diwali, I got a call… ‘Hello, the Prime Minister will talk to you’.” This phone did not belong to anyone else, but to Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.
This conversation was not a formal conversation of one or two minutes, but lasted for about half an hour. Rajdeep says that PM Modi not only inquired about his health but also gave him many advices on how to live life.
PM Modi gave health tips
According to Sardesai, the Prime Minister explained to him what kind of life should be lived. He said, “Modi ji told me for half an hour what to do. Get up at six in the morning, take bath with cold water… many such things.” This was not a call from a politician, but from a person who was sharing his personal concerns.
The family also became convinced of the PM
This phone call had a deep impact on Rajdeep’s family. He told, “When the PM’s call came, my sister living in Singapore had also come here. My sister and my children praised this step of PM Modi and said that this is called a leader.”
Rajdeep also clarified that he does not think this was done to get votes, because he has known PM Modi since the 90s, when he was not the Prime Minister. He believes that it is the quality of a leader that he cares about his critics and tries to take everyone along.
This incident shows that no matter how deep the political differences may be, the bond of humanity is far above them.
