Rajasthan Assembly by-election 2024: Voting will be held on November 13, counting of votes on November 23.

Jaipur, 15 October (HS). By-election voting for seven vacant seats in Rajasthan Assembly will be held on November 13. According to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission of India on Tuesday, the counting of votes on these seats will take place on November 23 along with the counting of votes for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand assemblies. By-elections are to be held in Jhunjhunu, Ramgarh (Alwar), Dausa, Deoli-Uniara (Tonk), Khinvasar (Nagaur), Salumber (Udaipur) and Chaurasi (Dungarpur) assembly constituencies in the state.

Chief Electoral Officer Naveen Mahajan held a meeting in this regard on Tuesday with representatives of various recognized political parties of the state at the Government Secretariat. In the meeting, political parties were given information about the program of Assembly by-election-2024 and the model code of conduct. The Election Department urged all parties to cooperate in ensuring free, fair and peaceful voting and adherence to the model code of conduct.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that with the announcement of the by-elections, the code of conduct has come into force in the respective revenue districts. The code of conduct will be applicable in the entire districts of Dausa and Dungarpur and in the newly reorganized revenue districts of Alwar, Jhunjhunu, Tonk, Nagaur and Salumber. Notification for the by-election will be released on October 18 and with that the nomination process for the candidates will start, which will continue till 3 pm on October 25. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on 28th October and names can be withdrawn till 30th October.

Mahajan said that as per the rules of the Election Commission, all the candidates and political parties participating in the elections will have to publish and broadcast information about the criminal background of the candidate at least three times on their website, TV channels, national and local newspapers. He said that polling agents should be instructed to be present for mock poll on the EVM machine 90 minutes before the start of polling on the morning of polling day.

Total 19.36 lakh voters in 7 assembly constituencies

The Chief Electoral Officer said that 19,36,533 voters will exercise their franchise during the assembly by-election. For this, a total of 1,862 polling stations and 53 auxiliary polling stations will be established in 7 assembly constituencies.

Mahajan said that media cells and district level committees have been formed in all the concerned districts for authentication of political advertisements released in the media. He stressed on making voters aware for maximum voting, giving information about voting process and EVMs to new voters and ensuring more participation of people during the by-elections.

In a press conference with media persons, the Chief Electoral Officer gave information about the C-Vigil App for redressal of complaints of violation of Model Code of Conduct in the respective areas. He gave detailed information on the campaigns being run for voter awareness, home voting facility for voters with more than 40 per cent disability and voters above 85 years of age, along with other sweep activities, updation of voter lists, monitoring of election expenditure. Also, he discussed the effective role of media in voter awareness and cases of code of conduct violations. He called upon the media persons to actively participate in these activities and cooperate in conducting the elections in a fair, fear-free and free from the influence of money power.
