Raipur, September 13 (HS). As per the wishes of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, health and nutrition facilities have been strengthened in the state. With the initiative of the administration, the Nutrition and Rehabilitation Center (NRC) established in Mungeli district to admit and treat severely malnourished children and bring them to normal category is proving to be a boon for malnourished children. With proper care and nutritious food in NRC, children are getting rid of malnutrition along with increasing their weight.
It is noteworthy that 11-month-old Ekta Sahu of Village Jhajpurikala of Lormi development block was admitted in Nutrition Rehabilitation Center, Lormi on 16th May on the advice of Anganwadi worker due to severe malnutrition, where the girl was kept with her mother and given proper care and supplementary nutrition, due to which the girl got relief from malnutrition along with increase in her weight in just 15 days.
Girish Kurre, District Program Manager of National Health Mission, said that after Ekta's health improved with special food, nutritional supplements and proper care, she was discharged from the Nutrition Rehabilitation Center. Along with this, Ekta's mother Mrs. Bhagwati Sahu was given an incentive of Rs. 2250 for nutritious food for the girl and information related to nutrition.
It is worth mentioning that severely malnourished children below the age of 5 years are admitted for treatment in NRC, where mothers or caretakers stay with the children in NRC and participate in counselling sessions on how to take care of the child after discharge from NRC. Severely malnourished children have medical problems other than malnutrition, who are admitted and provided with nutritious food along with necessary medicines.
To provide proper nutrition and treatment to the malnourished children of the district, 03 Nutrition Rehabilitation Centers have been opened in the district. One center is located in the district headquarters and two centers are located in Lormi and Pathariya. So far more than 1800 children have been benefited in the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centers of the district. Every day counseling is done for the mothers of the admitted patients on different topics, in which they are told about hand washing and cleanliness, family welfare, method of preparing nutritious food at home. Apart from this, information is given about vaccination and other schemes of the health department, the objective of which is that the children get food in the right way and in the right quantity in the center and can be freed from the category of malnutrition.
