Rainfall causes devastation in Jharkhand, bridge over river in Bokaro washed away, one person missing, Ranchi in a state of flood, NDRF on the front

Ranchi, 03 August (HS). Due to the heavy rains in Jharkhand for the last two days, many bridges and culverts have collapsed. Late on Friday night, the diversion built on the Garga river in Ranchi's Ratu Road was washed away, while on Saturday morning, a bridge built on the Bokaro river in Gomia block of Bokaro district at a cost of crores was washed away. During this, a villager is also reported to have been washed away.

The Mukhiya said that it has been raining heavily in Gomia block for the last 24 hours. The water level of Bokaro river has risen. A part of the bridge broke and got washed away in the strong current of the river. Traffic has come to a complete standstill due to the washing away of this bridge connecting Gomia and Petarwar path of Bokaro district. The river is overflowing. Due to this, traffic between Petarwar and Hazaribagh has come to a standstill. Not a single bus going to the capital Ranchi left from Bokaro today.

Jharkhand received light to moderate rainfall on Friday. The capital Ranchi, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Chatra, Koderma and Khunti received rainfall from morning to late evening. Waterlogging on roads in cities made it difficult for people to walk. The rain has slowed down the pace of cities. Water has entered houses in low-lying areas.

Ranchi meteorologist Abhishek Anand said that the depression formed in northern Jharkhand and its adjoining areas moved westward at a speed of five kilometers per hour during the last six hours. From 3 am to 5:30 am today, it remained centered in the same area near 24.2 degrees north latitude and 84.6 degrees east longitude, which is about 70 kilometers south-southwest of Gaya (Bihar) and 60 kilometers east-northeast of Daltonganj (Jharkhand). During the next 48 hours, it may move west-northwestward over northwest Jharkhand, southeast Uttar Pradesh, eastern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining northern Chhattisgarh.

There are flood-like conditions in the lower parts of Ranchi. Water has entered hundreds of houses. NDRF team has been deployed to rescue the people trapped in the water. Chief Minister Hemant Soren has said that holiday has been declared in all government and private schools today (August 3). The temperature has dropped by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius due to the rain.
