Rain wreaks havoc in Himachal, rescue operations stopped, IMD issues warning

Rain has caused havoc everywhere in Himachal Pradesh. There are reports of floods, landslides and landslides in many districts of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in most of the states including Himachal Pradesh. The state government has appealed to the people not to go near rivers and canals.

According to the weather department forecast, an orange alert for heavy rain has been issued in parts of Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan and Una by this evening. A warning of heavy to very heavy rain, thunder and lightning has also been issued at various places in the state on August 7 and 10. 53 roads have been closed due to heavy rains in the state, due to which people are facing huge problems in traffic. 18 roads are closed in Kullu, 16 in Mandi, nine in Lahaul and Spiti, six in Kangra, two each in Sirmaur and Kinnaur.

The Meteorological Department has also warned about the possibility of landslides and flash floods in some places. Apart from this, strong winds and flooding in low-lying areas are likely to damage gardens, standing crops, damaged infrastructure and houses in Kutch. Officials said that 93 people have died in rain-related incidents and the state has suffered a loss of Rs 748 crore. Many people are still missing. Forest department personnel along with NDRF, SDRF, Police, Home Guard, ITBP, Army and CISF are engaged in searching for the missing people.
