Not only in India, but also in the neighboring country Pakistan this year the monsoon rains have become a huge disaster. Continuous torrential rains in the northern and north-eastern hilly areas have completely disrupted normal life. According to Pakistan Disaster Management Authority data, at least 97 people have lost their lives in incidents of rain, landslides and floods since the beginning of the monsoon season, while hundreds have been seriously injured.
35 people died due to house collapse in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Torrential rains have caused maximum devastation in hilly districts like Abbottabad, Buner, Kohistan and Mansehra of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Due to continuous rain, many houses collapsed and about 35 people lost their lives due to being buried under the debris. Roads have been closed due to landslides in hilly areas, due to which relief and rescue operations are facing a lot of difficulties.
Outcry due to waterlogging in Islamabad, Lahore and Sialkot
About 60 percent of the annual rainfall of 1,300 mm in the capital Islamabad is recorded in this monsoon season. Islamabad’s roads and public infrastructure have been submerged due to heavy rains. Even in big cities like Lahore and Sialkot of Punjab province, roads are looking like rivers. Thousands of people are facing huge problems due to water logging in residential areas.
