Railways removes geo-fencing ban from UTS mobile app

Guwahati, May 05 (HS). To enhance passenger convenience and ease the ticket booking process for passengers, Indian Railways has removed the outer limit of geo-fencing restrictions on the UTS on mobile app. As a digitization initiative aimed at promoting customer convenience and experience while booking tickets, special emphasis has been laid on the three 'C's – Contact Less Ticketing, Cashless Transactions and Customer Convenience & Experience.

Earlier, tickets could not be booked if passengers were inside the station or indoors. Due to geo fencing of Railways, passengers were hampered in booking tickets. People could not book unreserved tickets and platform tickets within a radius of 20 km to 50 km of a station.

Passengers can now book tickets to any destination from their home or any place after the outer limit of geo-fencing is removed. However, passengers must reach the station premises within two hours of booking the ticket. Passengers will not be able to book tickets through the app inside the station.

One benefit of using the UTS On mobile app is that passengers will get a 3 per cent bonus while recharging their R-Wallet for unreserved ticket booking through the app.

This is to increase efficiency in booking and purchasing of unreserved tickets, reduce long queues at ticket counters and encourage users towards digital booking process.
