Kolkata, 09 November (HS). Three coaches – one parcel and two passenger – of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express (train number 22850) derailed at Nalpur in Kolkata. After this incident which took place on Saturday morning, Railways has ordered an internal inquiry.

A South-Eastern Railway official said on Saturday that a five-member committee will be formed to investigate the matter. If anyone's fault is found, action will be taken.

The official said the committee will submit its report in ten days and efforts will be made to prevent such incidents in future.

According to sources, frequent changes in the engine line of the train caused a jerk, which led to the accident. The train was in slow speed at the time of the incident, so no passenger was harmed. However, the down line was disrupted.

In this accident, the track joints broke and many concrete sleepers developed cracks. Railways arranged buses to take passengers to their destinations. An accident relief train from Santragachhi and a medical relief train from Kharagpur were sent for assistance. Investigation is ongoing.

It is noteworthy that last year 296 people died when Coromandel Express collided with a goods train in Odisha. In June this year also, Sealdah-Agartala Express collided with a goods train in Darjeeling, in which 11 people were killed.
