Everyone from children to senior citizens travel by train. Railways provides special facilities to senior citizens. If you book a lower berth in Railways for your senior citizen parents but you do not get it, then here we are telling you the method.

Senior citizens will get lower berths

Railways has made many rules to provide relief to senior citizens. This makes their journey easier. Lower berths can be booked for senior citizens. IRCTC informed about easy allotment of lower berths to senior citizens. A passenger had tweeted saying that he had booked a train ticket for his uncle and had given priority to the lower berth because he was suffering from leg problems, but even then the Railways gave him the upper berth.

Railways told how to book lower berth for senior citizens

Responding to the passenger's tweet, Railways has written that if you book a ticket under general quota, you are allotted a seat only if there is a seat available. If there is no seat, you will not get a seat. If you book under Reservation Choice Book, you will get the lower berth only if the lower berth is allotted.

Lower berths are available on first come, first served basis.

Railways said that seats are allotted to those booking under general quota only when the seats are vacant. These seats are available on a first come and first served basis. There is no human intervention in getting a seat in the general quota. However, you can approach the TTE for lower berth and negotiate for a lower berth for yourself. If lower berth is available then you will get it.
