New Delhi, 15 October (Hindustan Reporter). Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Tuesday flagged off the 'Shetkari Samriddhi' Kisan Special train connecting Deolali in Maharashtra to Danapur in Bihar through video conferencing from Rail Bhawan.
Railway Minister Ashwini said on this occasion that the purpose of this train is to rapidly transport the produce of the farmers of Maharashtra to other states of the country. This train will stop at several major stations including Nashik, Manmad, Jalgaon, Bhusaval, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Satna, and Deendayal Upadhyay, giving farmers the opportunity to sell their produce at the right time and at the right price. Farmers will be able to send their produce from areas like Devlali and Nashik to Bihar at the rate of only Rs 4 per kg. Along with parcel vans for small and big farmers, ordinary class coaches have also been installed in this train, which will provide travel facilities to both farmers and laborers. The freight per kilometer on the 1,515 km long distance from Devlali to Danapur will be less than 28 paise per kilogram, which will make it possible to transport perishable products at low cost. This train will not only provide new markets to the farmers but will also provide cheap and convenient means of travel to the workers, which will improve their standard of living.
Vaishnav stressed that the initiative is a pilot project, with plans to run more trains for farmers if it is successful. Highlighting the development of railways in Maharashtra, he said the annual funding has increased from Rs 1,171 crore before 2014 to Rs 15,940 crore now, with 41 projects approved for 5,870 km long new railway lines and Rs 81,000 crore.
