Rail roko movement against CAA in Kerala M.M. P. Vijayan said, I will not allow CAA to be implemented in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Protests have started in Kerala since the publication of the CAA notification last Monday evening. There are many types of protests. State Chief Minister Pinirai Vijayan has already announced that I will not allow CAA to be implemented in the state.

The National Students Union of India (NSUI), the youth wing of the Congress, has started a rail roko movement at Kochi and Thrissur railway stations against the Citizenship Amendment Act (Citizenship (Amendment) Act- 2024). However, the police used mild force and removed them from the track. On one hand, the youth wing of the ruling CPM took out a protest march in Kozhikode, while on the other hand, Fraternity Party supporters also suddenly joined the protest march there. The police used mild force and detained the protesting leaders.

Activists of the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) also protested in Kasaragod, a Muslim-dominated area.

Meanwhile, the state Chief Minister strongly criticized the CAA and said that apart from the CAA, he has been and will continue to oppose both the Communal Partition Act.

According to available information, CAA will not be implemented in the North-Eastern states where tribals are in majority. Visitors from other states of India still have to obtain an Inner Line Permit to enter the area.

The ILP Act is applicable in the north-eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur. According to the 6th Schedule of the Constitution, autonomous councils have been formed in these tribal areas. These have been kept out of the scope of CAA. Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura have such autonomous councils.
