'Rahul-Khadge did not campaign for me, my future is in the dark…', the veteran leader's pain spilled out after the defeat

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury: A day after losing from West Bengal's Berhampur Lok Sabha seat, senior Congress leader and 5-time MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has expressed apprehension about his political future. He said that I do not know what my political future will be now. Adhir Ranjan said that he also suspects that his tough time is going to come. In an effort to fight this government (TMC), I have neglected my source of income. I call myself a BPL MP. I have no other skill except politics. So there will be trouble for me in the coming days and I do not know how to get out of it.

It is worth noting that TMC candidate Yusuf Pathan has won from Baharampur Lok Sabha seat, while Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has lost the election by 85022 votes. On one hand, Yusuf Pathan got 524516 votes, while Adhir Ranjan got 439494 votes. With the defeat of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Congress lost its political hold on Baharampur, which is one of the last remaining strongholds of Congress in Bengal. Congress has won only one Malda South seat in Bengal.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that he will soon come to Delhi and vacate his MP residence. He said, my daughter is currently studying and sometimes she goes to Delhi for studies. I have to find a new house there, as I do not have any house. On Mamata Banerjee's closeness with India Block after the election, Choudhary said that he never objected to the presence of TMC on the opposition platform, but agrees that he has put his point against the party high command by opposing the alliance with Banerjee. On remaining on the post of state PCC president, Adhir Ranjan said that he has accepted his defeat in the election. I wanted to resign urging my leaders to find someone more suitable than me for this post, but on the request of Sonia Gandhi, I withdrew this decision. I have not received any call from my leaders so far. Once I get a call, I will again express my wish to my party.

Adhir Ranjan said that it was the party's decision not to send any leader to campaign in Berhampur and he has no comment on the matter. He said that when Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra reached Murshidabad, we joined it. Our party president Mallikarjun Kharge once campaigned in Malda, but never came to Berhampur. It was the decision of our central leadership, about which I have nothing to say.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury expressed serious doubts about post-poll violence in the state and Trinamool's attacks on Congress workers and urged Mamata Banerjee to protect her supporters. He said, “They have won Bengal, what is the point of targeting our workers now? You can punish me as much as you want for disobeying you, but spare my workers.”
