Smriti Irani has vacated her official bungalow at 28 Tughlaq Crescent in Lutyens Delhi. Smriti Irani vacated the bungalow earlier this week. She lost the Amethi parliamentary seat to Congress leader Kishori Lal Sharma by a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes. The former Women and Child Development Minister had defeated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from the Amethi seat in 2019. Rahul Gandhi and Congress supporters described her defeat as a 'humiliating defeat'.
The bungalow was to be vacated by July 11
In the recently held Lok Sabha elections, 17 Union Ministers of Modi Government 2.0 faced defeat. The ministers had time till July 11 to vacate the bungalow. They were also given notice in this matter.
According to the rules, government accommodation has to be vacated within a month of the dissolution of the Lok Sabha. The President dissolved the 17th Lok Sabha on June 5, so former MPs had only until July 5 to vacate their government accommodation.
