Let us tell you that Rahul Gandhi contested the Lok Sabha elections from two seats and won both the seats, according to the rules, he will have to resign from one seat.
Along with this, the opposition has expressed its opposition on the beginning of the 18th Lok Sabha session. This opposition of the opposition is regarding the Protem Speaker. BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab has been made the Protem Speaker of the Lok Sabha. In this regard, the Congress and India Block MPs have registered their protest.
What did the opposition parties say?
India Alliance says that this decision is taken against parliamentary tradition. Congress says that Kodikunnil Suresh should be made the Protem Speaker ignoring his seniority.
What did Kodikunnil Suresh say?
Let us tell you that President Draupadi Murmu has appointed BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab as the Protem Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha. Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh also raised objections. He said that this is a violation of the traditions of the Lok Sabha by the NDA government at the Center. There has been a tradition in the Lok Sabha that the MP who is elected the most number of times becomes the Protem Speaker.
K. Suresh said that Bhartruhari Mahtab has been elected MP for the 7th time, while he has been elected MP for the 8th time. Congress has also opposed this and called it a decision taken against the parliamentary tradition.
What did Congress say?
Reacting strongly to the decision, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal has said that this is another attempt to break parliamentary norms, with Bhartruhari Mahtab (seven-time MP) replacing Kodikunnil Suresh as the pro tem speaker.
He said Kodikunnil Suresh will enter his eighth term. It is an undisputed norm that the most senior MP presides over the proceedings of the House before a formal election. Several other members of the Lok Sabha, including Suresh, have been appointed to assist the Protem Speaker. All these members will assist in the swearing-in of Lok Sabha MPs.
