Rahul Gandhi to appear in Bengaluru court today in BJP's defamation case

New Delhi, June 07 (HS). Congress leader Rahul Gandhi left for Bengaluru by plane this morning. He is scheduled to appear in a special court in Bengaluru at 10:30 am in a defamation case. The BJP's Karnataka unit had accused the Congress and him of issuing allegedly false advertisements in mainstream newspapers ahead of the 2023 state assembly elections.

In this advertisement, Rahul Gandhi had accused the then Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai of taking commission. After this, the BJP leader had filed a defamation case against him. In the last hearing in this case, the court had asked Rahul Gandhi to appear on June 7.

Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah are also accused in this case. However, both have got bail from the court. During the hearing today, Rahul Gandhi can ask for exemption from personal appearance. DK Shivakumar says that this is a politically motivated case.

To avoid any inconvenience in the court premises during Rahul's appearance, Congress has appealed to the workers not to gather around the court. According to the state unit of Congress, after this Rahul will hold a discussion with the newly elected Congress MPs from the state at Bharat Jodo Bhavan on Queens Road at 11:30 am.
