Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday met flood-affected people in Assam and people living in relief camps in violence-hit Manipur and listened to their problems. Rahul Gandhi said that he will raise the issue of the affected people of these two states at the Centre.
Rahul Gandhi landed at Silchar airport in Assam on Monday morning. From here he went to a relief camp at Thalai in Hamarkhawlin area of Lakhipur. He stayed at the relief camp for 20 minutes and talked to the victims and listened to their suffering and assured them that he would raise their issue in Parliament. The victims said that Rahul Gandhi was the first leader to come to meet them. They submitted a memorandum to Rahul Gandhi explaining their problems. Notably, 1,700 people near Jiribam in Manipur have taken refuge in the neighboring state of Assam after incidents of increasing violence in the violence-hit state last month.
Demand for relief package to deal with the devastation caused by floods
Rahul Gandhi, who arrived in Assam, was handed a letter by state Congress President Bhupen Bora, in which he was urged to raise the issue of devastating floods before the Center, so that adequate relief and compensation can be provided for the huge losses caused by the floods. He demanded that a relief package should be given from the Center to deal with the flood havoc. Here Rahul Gandhi met the flood victims at a relief camp in Furethal in Cachar district.
