Jammu, September 19, HS. Union Minister and Jammu and Kashmir in-charge G Kishan Reddy said that Rahul Gandhi and three generations of Prime Ministers before him knew that Jammu and Kashmir has a tremendous potential of 18,000 MW hydroelectric power generation. Why is it that it was never properly utilized?
He said that while the state government has added only 1,197 MW of power since Independence, the Modi government is going to add 3,014 MW more capacity by 2025-26.
In the financial year 2023-24, the Jammu and Kashmir government has spent about Rs 9500 crore on power purchase through Jammu and Kashmir Power Corporation Limited.
Jammu and Kashmir's power deficit is reduced from 17.8% during the year 2018-19 to 7.5% during the year 2023-24.
Rahul Gandhi is just an election tourist in Jammu and Kashmir. During elections, he lies a lot and talks nonsense without any knowledge or facts. Not only this, spreading confusion among people, making false promises and luring them, doing politics of appeasement, deceiving the innocent public is the policy of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party. Due to these false promises and confusion, the development of the people and the country is getting hampered. But the desire for power and luxury is so strong that these people will do anything. The way the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has spoken against India's culture, civilization, Sanatan Dharma and nationalist organizations like RSS at Dallas Texas University in America is also very unfortunate.
His recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir further proves this foolish behaviour. Rahul Gandhi said in an election rally that Jammu and Kashmir is providing electricity to the rest of the country, but the residents of Jammu and Kashmir are paying more for electricity than the rest of the country. This is a lie that must be refuted, because the ground reality tells a different story.
Rahul Gandhi and three generations of Prime Ministers before him knew that Jammu and Kashmir has a tremendous potential of 18000 MW hydropower generation. Why is it that it has never been tapped. Due to the neglect of various governments in the past, especially the Congress at the Centre and the National Conference and PDP in the state, only 3,400 MW of this potential could be tapped in the last 70 years, of which the state has added only 1197 MW.
In the financial year 2023-24, the Jammu and Kashmir government had to spend around Rs 9500 crore on power purchase through Jammu and Kashmir Power Corporation Limited (JKPCL) to meet the power demand of consumers, commercial units and industry in the state. The Government of India believes that the energy needs of the state should be met and hence the power deficit of Jammu and Kashmir has been reduced from 17.8% during the year 2018-19 to 7.5% during the year 2023-24. This was done by purchasing power from outside the state.
