Rahul Gandhi gets bail in Veer Savarkar defamation case

Mumbai – A special court in Pune granted bail to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case related to freedom fighter Veer Savarkar’s alleged objectionable statement on Hindutva ideology.

The special court hearing the cases against the MP and MLA costs Rs. Bail was granted on a bond of Rs 25 thousand. Rahul Gandhi appeared before the court through video conferencing. Senior Congress leader Mohan Joshi appeared in the court as a surety. The court also granted Gandhi permanent exemption from appearance, his lawyer Milind Pawar said. The hearing of the case is now to be held on February 18.

This case was registered on the complaint of Savarkar’s brother’s great-grandson. In a speech given to Gandhi in London in March 2023, he cited Savarkar’s book and made alleged objectionable remarks.
