New Delhi, June 17 (HS). Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid has praised the Canadian team after India's last T20 World Cup league match in Florida was cancelled due to wet outfield.
The Indian players are set to face Afghanistan in their first Super 8 match on June 20 in Barbados.
The BCCI on Monday shared a video of Dravid's special interaction with Canadian players and staff members in the dressing room. On Saturday, Dravid received a signed jersey from Canada coach Pubudu Dassanayake. The Indian head coach praised the Canadian team for their efforts in the tournament and emerging as an inspiration for the young players.
“Guys, thank you so much. Personally, I would like to acknowledge and appreciate the great contribution you guys have made to this tournament. You guys are honestly a great inspiration to all of us, showing us that we truly love this game. Congratulations for the kind of sacrifices you guys are willing to make to play this tournament, qualify, come here and make this tournament a success. You all did a great job,” Dravid said in a video posted by the BCCI on X.
He said, “All I would say is keep it going. You guys are inspiring. Not just others, but I am sure you are inspiring young boys and girls in your country to play sports. So, honestly, the results don't matter. I think the fact that you are inspiring is great for the world.”
The Indian team arrived in Barbados ahead of the Super 8 match against Afghanistan on Thursday. After reaching Barbados, all-rounder Hardik Pandya was quite excited and expressed his desire to enjoy the cuisine of the venue. Hardik said, “We are in Barbados, looking forward to going to the beach, enjoying the good sunshine as well as the beautiful clear blue water. There can be no better place to play such a great tournament with great people at the same time.”
