Dhaka, 13 November (HS). The three-day Raas Purnima Puja fair (holy bath) is going to start from Thursday in Bangladesh. The Forest Department has made special security arrangements for this around Sunderbans and in Alorkol of Dobler Char. Many types of restrictions have also been imposed in this. This puja fair has special significance among the Hindu families living in Bangladesh. Doubler Char is famous as fish village. Doubler Char is an island. Its area is 66.5 square kilometers. It is in Bagerhat district of Khulna division. Doubler Char is considered a beautiful tourist destination of Sundarban.
According to Dhaka Tribune newspaper, Forest Department (West) officials said that special security measures have been taken in Alorkol to ensure that devotees do not face any problem during the Ras Purnima puja (holy bath). The three-day Raas Purnima Puja will conclude on November 16. There will be a ban on carrying any kind of homemade weapons and firearms and all types of meat during the event. The forest department has earmarked five waterways for devotees heading towards Doubler Char in the Sundarbans.
These routes are – (1) Burigolini-Kobadak rivers up to Doubler Char via Batulnadi-Balnadi-Patkoshta-Hongshoraj. (2) Koira-Kashibad-Kashitana-Bozboja Arua Shibsa-Shibsa River-Marjat route. (3) Shibsa-Marjat River from Naliyan Station to Dubler Char. (4) Tinkona Island to Dobler Char via Dangmari-Chandpai. (5) From Bogi-Baleshwar-Supoti-Kachikhali station to Doubler Char crossing Shelar Char.
Forest department officials have clarified that Hindu devotees taking part in the Raas Purnima puja (holy bath) will have to pay entry fee. No one will be allowed to move in and out at night. Sunderbans Divisional Forest Officer (West Division) MD Sarwar Alam said, “A discussion has been held in the meeting with the Bagerhat district administration to stop illegal hunting of deer during the puja period. Illegal hunting will be stopped at all costs. He said that the pilgrims will have to start the journey at five in the morning. Carrying loudspeakers, electronic devices of any kind, firearms, ammunition and traveling at night is strictly prohibited.
The Raas Purnima puja committee has been asked to keep a check on deer hunting during the festival. “Patrol teams of Rapid Action Battalion, Coast Guard and Bangladesh Navy as well as Forest Department have been deployed for the safety of pilgrims in Pashuar, Shevla, Bhola and Shibsa rivers from November 14 to 16,” he said.
It is noteworthy that Sundarban or Sundarban (Bengali pronunciation – Shoondorbon) is the world’s largest river delta extending to India and Bangladesh. The Sundarbans are formed by a group of islands located at the mouth of the Bay of Bengal spanning both countries. It is situated on the delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers. It is one of the largest active delta regions in the world. These deltas are filled with evergreen forests and vast salt marshes. There are many narrow creeks in this swampy forest. The man-eating tigers here are famous all over the world by the name of ‘Bengal Tiger’. The Sundarbans of the Indian region is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.
