After his brilliant inning of 91 runs in the Gabba Test in the year 2021, Shubman Gill was being considered as the next big Test batsman of Indian cricket. Many people felt that he could prove to be the successor to Virat Kohli. Despite being naturally aggressive, Gill displayed restraint in Test cricket. However, even after playing four years and 32 Test matches, his average is only 35.05.
former indian cricketer S Badrinath Targeting Shubman Gill and the selection committee of BCCI, he said that Gill is being given more opportunities than necessary. He also alleged that Gill has got a place in the team till now due to regional bias.
“Shubman Gill got the advantage of being from North India”
Speaking on Star Sports Tamil, S Badrinath accused BCCI of bias, saying:
“If Shubhman Gill was from Tamil Nadu, he would have been dropped from the team by now. It is difficult for me to see him not living up to expectations despite getting so many opportunities.”
“The art of tiring the bowlers should be shown”
Badrinath questioned Gill’s lack of aggression and intent in his batting, saying:
“If you can’t score runs, at least show intent and aggression. Tire the bowlers by playing 100 balls. When Labuschagne and McSweeney play the dot ball, they tire the bowlers. This contribution is important for the team. But Shubman Gill has failed to do so.”
