India's experienced shuttler PV Sindhu has made it to the final of the Malaysia Masters badminton tournament by defeating Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan. The Hyderabadi player took 88 minutes to defeat Busanan 13-21, 21-16, 21-12 in the women's singles semi-final. Sindhu lost the first game 13-21 but she made a comeback in the remaining two games and entered the final. Sindhu will face China's Wang Jiayi in the final to be played on Sunday.
Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu has registered 18 wins in 19 matches against Busanan. Sindhu has not won any tournament in the last two years and has not even reached the quarter-finals in the last six matches. Sindhu last won the Singapore Open title in 2022. Last year she was the runner-up at the Madrid Masters. Busan's last defeat against the Indian player was in the 2019 Hong Kong Open. Sindhu has won two out of three matches against China's Zhang. It is a relief for India that Sindhu, who won silver and bronze medals respectively in the Olympics, is in form ahead of the Paris Olympics. The Indian women's doubles pair of Simran Sindhi and Ritika Thakar lost 21-17, 21-11 to the Malaysian pair in the second round. Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost 18-21, 22-20, 14-21 to the Chinese Taipei pair in the pre-quarterfinals.
