He has instructed officers commanding the army and navy on Ukraine's border to conduct nuclear weapons exercises, with President Putin presumably consulting the chiefs of staff of all three of his services before giving the order.

Russia's Defense Ministry said on Monday that the president has informed commanding officers and other senior officials to receive detailed information on how to use nuclear weapons.

Putin has taken this decision to such an extent that the chiefs of his armies have told that Russia is also in danger from Western countries. Therefore, nuclear weapons must be deployed in military practice and a complete understanding of how and when to use them on which fronts in war must be obtained.

Top Russian military officials said, “Through this we want to show that we are fully prepared and ready to protect our integrity and unity.”
