Putin fifth president with record majority

Vladimir Putin has become the President of Russia for the fifth consecutive time. Putin got 88 percent of the votes in the voting held on March 15-17. His opponent, Nikola Kharitonov, received only 4 percent of the vote. Rival candidates Vladislav Davankov and Leonid Slutsky finished third and fourth respectively in the election. Congratulating Putin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a social media post said, 'Hearty congratulations to Vladimir Putin on his re-election as Russian. We look forward to working together to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Russia in the years to come.

After the results were announced, Putin said that Russia will now become more powerful and influential. He also discussed the issue of Russia-NATO dispute and said that if the US-led military alliance NATO and Russia come face to face, then the world will be one step away from the Third World War. I don't think anyone wants that. Putin became President for the first time in 2000. Took charge in the year 2008. In 2012, then-President Medvedev asked his party to nominate Putin once again. After this, he returned to power by winning the elections in 2012. Since then Putin is the President of Russia.

Putin can remain president till 2036

The Russian Constitution states that no person can serve as president for more than two consecutive terms. Due to that rule, Putin made his friend Dmitry Medvedev the President on 8 May 2008. In November 2008, Medvedev extended the presidential term from four years to six years. In January 2020 Putin amended the constitution to eliminate the two-term limit. A referendum was also conducted to prove the decision correct.

Warned of third world war as soon as he wins presidential election

In his first address after the results came on Monday, Putin threatened the West with a third world war. He said a conflict between Russia and the US-led NATO military alliance would mean the world would be just one step away from World War III. Hardly anyone would like to see such a situation.
