The Central Government has taken a big step to give a new pace of development to the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh and to strengthen the connectivity with Bihar. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is soon going to start the construction of the ambitious ‘Ghazipur-Ballia-Manjhighat Expressway’. This new greenfield corridor will not only open new avenues of trade by directly connecting the remote areas of Purvanchal, but will also make the journey to Manjhighat located on the border of UP and Bihar very easy and comfortable. From a reporter’s perspective, this infrastructure project has the potential to completely change the economic and social landscape of eastern Uttar Pradesh in the times to come.
The journey from UP to Bihar will now be completed in minutes
The biggest advantage of the construction of this new expressway will be that it will directly connect the already existing Purvanchal Expressway in Ghazipur to the border of Bihar. With the aim of completing the work within the stipulated time frame like Panchang:

Distance and time saving: At present, hours of time is wasted due to heavy traffic jams and bad roads on the traditional routes from Ghazipur to Bihar border via Ballia. With the construction of this new four-lane (in future six-lane) expressway, the travel time will be reduced by more than half.

Direct connection with Bihar: After reaching Manjhighat, this expressway will provide a seamless and uninterrupted route to vehicles going to Chhapra, Hajipur and capital Patna of Bihar.
The route of the expressway will pass through these major areas
As per the NHAI design and survey map, this greenfield corridor has been planned in such a way that it can benefit the maximum population with minimum impact on agricultural land:

the starting point: This expressway will start from or near Jangipur in Ghazipur district and proceed directly parallel to the main residential and industrial areas of Ballia district.

Main Junction: A big interchange will be built near Ballia city, so that local people can easily get on and off the expressway.

dead ends: This route will end directly at Manjhighat in Ballia, where it will be linked to the road network of Bihar near the existing bridge over the Ghaghra river.
Farmers and traders of Purvanchal will get a big market
The main objective of this project is not only to make travel easier but also to boost the regional economy. Industrial corridors will be developed on both sides of the expressway, which will create large-scale employment opportunities for the local youth.
Vegetable producing farmers of Ballia and Ghazipur will get the facility to transport their produce to big markets of Patna, Varanasi or Lucknow within a few hours, which will significantly increase their income. Additionally, reduced logistics and freight costs will encourage establishment of new industries in Purvanchal, which till now was lagging behind due to lack of better transport connectivity. Local administration and NHAI officials are working rapidly on the land acquisition process.
