Punjab Waterlogging: The Human Rights Commission has sent a notice to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner regarding waterlogging on the Heritage Street on the way to Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar. They have sought a reply till the next hearing. After an hour of heavy rain in Amritsar on Wednesday, the condition of Heritage Street became like drowning. This is the route from where lakhs of pilgrims go to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple every day. A Nihang Singh was sitting on his cart on the road and helping people cross the road.

The drainage system in Amritsar's Heritage Street, built at a cost of crores, has completely failed. This project was built during the Akali-BJP government especially for the devotees visiting Harmandir Sahib. It is a center of attraction. But its condition during the rainy season is disappointing people.

Taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, the Commission comprising Justice Sant Prakash, Hon'ble Chairman, Punjab State Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Amritsar on or before the next date of hearing i.e. 30.10.2024. He said that due to poor sewage disposal and apathy of the citizens, just one rain is enough to turn the stretch from Town Hall to Harmandir Sahib into a foul-smelling waterway.

Social activist Pawan Kumar Sharma said that today's rain has exposed the poor arrangements of the Amritsar administration. He said that devotees coming from outside, many political figures and great personalities are reaching through this route to visit Sri Harmandir Sahib. He said that when will the administration pay attention to this because people coming from different countries will pay attention to the negligence of the administration.
