Punjab shivers due to icy winds, day temperature drops to 11 degrees in six districts

Ludhiana: Due to snowfall in the upper areas of Himachal Pradesh, severe cold hit Punjab on Monday. Due to the cold wave, day temperature in six districts of Punjab was recorded 8-10 degrees Celsius below normal, while night temperature was 2-3 degrees above normal.

According to Meteorological Department Chandigarh, the day temperature was recorded at 11 degrees Celsius in Chandigarh, Rupnagar, Moga, Ferozepur, Faridkot and Pathankot. At the same time, it was 12 degrees Celsius in Amritsar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali and Bathinda, while it was 13 degrees Celsius in Ludhiana, Patiala and Jalandhar. The day temperature was 8.5 degrees below normal in Chandigarh, 5.5 degrees in Amritsar, 4.9 degrees in Ludhiana, 5.8 degrees in Patiala, 7.4 degrees in Bathinda, 10 degrees in Rupnagar and 8.3 degrees Celsius in Pathankot and Jalandhar.

Talking about night temperature, the minimum temperature in Chandigarh was 10 degrees Celsius, while in Amritsar, Rupnagar, Pathankot, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Bathinda and Ludhiana it was 7 degrees Celsius. It was 10 degrees in Patiala, 8 degrees in Moga, 8.8 degrees in Faridkot, 9.7 degrees in Fatehgarh Sahib, 10.7 degrees in Mohali and Jalandhar.

According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog may occur in many parts of Punjab on Tuesday and the cold wave will continue. A new western disturbance is likely to become active from January 4, which may cause light to moderate rain in Punjab. After this the weather is expected to clear.
