Punjab Police arrests member of Pakistan-based terrorist module, recovers modern weapons

Jalandhar: In a major blow to organized crime in the state, the Punjab Police has stopped a possible target killing planned by cross-border operatives with the arrest of a member linked to a Pakistan-based terror module.

Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav said here today that the arrested accused has been identified as Lovepreet Singh alias Picho of Udho Nangal village of Amritsar. The police team also recovered a .30 bore automatic Chinese pistol, a magazine and four live cartridges from his possession.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that acting immediately on the intelligence, counter intelligence Jalandhar police teams set up a special naka in Rama Mandi area and arrested the accused after recovering a sophisticated automatic pistol from his possession.

He said investigation revealed that the arrested accused Lovepreet was working for Pakistan-based operatives who had assigned him the task of carrying out targeted killings in the Jammu and Kashmir region to create fear and unrest in the society.

Giving more information in this regard, SSP Counter Intelligence Jalandhar Navjot Singh Mahal said that the accused had deposited money through Pakistan-based workers in the bank accounts of the arrested accused through Dubai and ammunition including pistols were sent across the border by the accused. Was. It was received from Samba area of ​​Jammu and Kashmir. He further said that further investigation of this matter is going on.

In this regard, a case has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) vide FIR No. 25 dated 22.04.2024 at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar. ,
