Punjab stubble burning case: Before the Panchayat elections, the Punjab government has taken a big decision which can lead to a big political controversy in the state. In fact, red entries will be recorded in the land records of farmers who burn stubble in their fields, as a result of which new licenses for their weapons will not be issued and old ones will not be renewed. Arms licenses are considered a matter of prestige in villages.
In view of more than five dozen cases of stubble burning in a week during the paddy harvesting season in Punjab, the Punjab government has warned that 'red entries' will be recorded in the land records of farmers who burn stubble. Not only this, but farmers who have 'red entries' in their land records will neither be able to apply for new arms licenses nor will their old licenses be renewed.
According to sources, a formal order will be issued by the district administration in this regard in the next few days. However, these orders have already been issued in some districts. 11 cases of stubble burning were reported in Punjab which started on September 15.
This is the highest number of cases reported in a single day this season. Of these, the maximum six cases were reported from Amritsar, four from Gurdaspur and one from Guwahati. According to sources, a formal order will be issued by the district administration in this regard in the next few days.
