Farmers, including those from Punjab, have approached the central government demanding guarantee of support prices. Punjab government stands with the farmers in this movement.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is continuously advocating the farmers against the government. The Chief Minister has described the demands of the farmers as legitimate. He appealed to the farmers to maintain peace at any cost and maintain law and order during the protests.
He held a meeting with representatives of farmer organizations including Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda, Nityanand Rai.
After the meeting, Chief Minister Ma said that the issue of import of pulses from Mozambique and Colombia was raised in the meeting. This import is worth more than 2 billion dollars. If minimum support price is given on pulses, Punjab can be at the forefront in pulses production.
The Chief Minister said that even though the fertile land of Punjab has lost its natural resources today, yet another green revolution will come in the country. If farmers get MSP then they can switch to cotton and maize.
Raising the issue of crop marketing, the Chief Minister said that farmers will benefit from this. This will increase the enthusiasm of the farmers.
The Chief Minister said that this issue was strongly put before the Union Ministers in the meeting with the farmers. Along with this, the Chief Minister expressed grief over the death of farmers and said that it is unfortunate. Two farmers have been martyred.
