Chandigarh, 14 November (HS). After the clearance from the Central Government to give land to Haryana for the construction of a new assembly building in Chandigarh, the politics of both the states has heated up. After the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government of Punjab, now the President of Punjab BJP has also expressed opposition to this decision.
Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar issued a statement on Thursday saying that Chandigarh is not a piece of land for them. People’s emotions are attached to this. He said that the Prime Minister has made many efforts to heal the wounds suffered by Punjab in the past, but allotting a separate site to Haryana for the new assembly building in Chandigarh will hurt the people. They should reconsider this decision. He has expressed his opinion about this by posting a post on his social media account.
State BJP President Jakhar also cornered Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in this matter. Jakhar said that the claim of Chandigarh and Punjab has become weak due to the lack of understanding of the Chief Minister of Aam Aadmi Party during the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Jaipur on an issue on which all the parties of Punjab were unanimous. When Haryana had asked for this land for the Assembly in the North Zonal Council meeting, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, instead of opposing it, approved his demand by asking for land for the Punjab Assembly. Jakhar raised the question why the people of Punjab should have to pay for the anti-Punjab punishment on this issue by Punjab’s rookie Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
