East Champaran, 29 June (HS). A one-day workshop was organized on the subject of Probation of Offenders Act 1958 in the District Probation Office premises. On the said occasion, Office Head Shambhu Mandal, Chief Probation Officer and Office Head of Sikarhana, Pratibha Kumari, Probation Officer, Vijay Kumar Rai, Probation Officer were present.
The workshop was presided over by Secretary District Legal Services Authority Rajesh Kumar Dubey. On this occasion Judicial Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Barnwal and District Prosecution Officer, District Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Central Jail along with many advocates also participated. On this occasion a detailed discussion was held on various provisions of the Probation of Offenders Act 1958 and the provisions of Bihar Probation Rules 1959. Principal Probation Officer Shambhu Mandal discussed in detail as to how the accused can take advantage of various provisions of the Probation of Offenders Act 1958.
It was told that this act can also be used to solve the problems increasing in jails at present. Secretary, Legal Services Authority said that there is a need for public awareness about the benefits of this act. Therefore, workshops should also be organized at panchayat level from time to time. Probation report and its importance were discussed by Pratibha Kumari, Probation Officer and Vijay Kumar Rai, Probation Officer. The discussion was concluded with a vote of thanks by Pratibha Kumari, Probation Officer, Sikarhna.
